Player of the Year 2020 – 2021

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the Player of the Year awards for 2020 – 2021 were presented by SAFC Head Coach Lee Johnson, behind closed doors. More information on the winners for each category are as follows:

Young Player of the Year  – Dion Sanderson
Player of the Year – Charlie Wyke
Goal Of Season  – Chris Maguire

Young Player Of The Year

Dion Sanderson has been named the Sunderland AFC Supporters’ Young Player of the Year.

The 21-year-old defender arrived on a season-long loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers in October and quickly became a popular figure on Wearside, making a total of 27 appearances and contributing to 10 clean sheets ..

Player Of The Year

Charlie Wyke has been named the Sunderland AFC Supporters’ Player of the Year.  The striker has hit 30 goals in 52 appearances so far this season, including two hat-tricks against AFC Wimbledon and Doncaster Rovers along the way.

Sunderland AFC 2020 -21

Goal of the Season

Chris Maguire’s last-minute volley against Crewe Alexandra has won the David Dent Goal of the Season award.  Selected by the members of the Branch Liaison Council, the award was created in memory of Sunderland supporter David Dent, who ran the Sedgefield branch with his father Clive before he sadly passed away in 2020.
